Traffic Safety Education :-

Since its in inception 1953 , the Traffic Training School of Kolkata Traffic Police has been an Institution Par Excellence, and has served the citizens of this ‘GREAT CITY Of JOY' with great distinction in empowering good traffic sense and knowledge amongst all sections of our society with the help of extensive training programmes and pertinent traffic education. Over the years, this school has become a cradle for nurturing and spreading ideas, thoughts, campaigns and knowledge on road safety to educate the general public and drivers with the objective of reducing mishaps on the Road of Kolkata.

Various studies conducted over the years by the WHO revealed that, in most of the developing countries of the world and especially in India, pedestrians are most vulnerable to road accidents, accounting to almost half, of the recorded fatalities every year. It has thus become imperative to inculcate good traffic sense and knowledge amongst the children and the youth of this great city who would soon become the torch bearers of tomorrow.

Hence, the Traffic Training School's wide ranging curriculum and schedule of activities are designed specifically to cater to the needs of almost all sections of the society which includes School / College students, N.G.O volunteers, Cadets of N.C.C, Bharat Scouts & Guides, professional drivers, offending drivers, staffs of Army & Navy, WBP and Green Police under Bidhannagar Commissionereate etc. Apart from these, TTS organises innumerable training programmes for the Inspectors, Sergeants, SI's, ASIs Constables, Home Guards, Civic Police Volunteers of Traffic Department as well as Police Drivers, Traffic Wardens and Hyundai Police Volunteers throughout the year.

The multifarious training syllabus not only includes the various subjects of traffic education, but behaviour management, stress management, motivation, health & hygiene, motor mechanism, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, disaster management etc.

TTS also organises special workshops for the bus / taxi /goods vehicle drivers to inculcate the idea of sensible and safe driving Officers & men of TTS attends several workshops, seminars organised by various organisation to spread the sense and knowledge of traffic education among common people.

The officers of TTS act as examiners on the subject “Traffic Education” during the Madhyamik Examination. With the cordial Co-operation of the officers of TTS, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education Published a “Teacher's Manual” on Traffic Education with a view to implementation of this subject in the syllabus of junior classes compulsory.

It is rightly said that many hands make light work. Kolkata Traffic Police personnel work for society and to be successful at their job, they require the co-operation of the citizens they guard. To ensure safety and security on roads, Kolkata Traffic Police organises “Road Safety Week” every week with zeal & enthusiasm.

Renovation & upgradation of Traffic Training School, Tala:-
Under the supervision of the then Spl. Commissioner of Police (II), Sri Soumen Mitra, IPS a major renovation work took place at Traffic Training School, Tala, to provide best possible infrastructure to the trainees for a successful and better training programme. To small class-rooms on the first floor and a big class-room on the second floor re-structured at TTS, Tala. Each class-room have been air –conditioned, overhead LCD projectors installed as well as other best and modern logistics provided.

Newly built Library at Traffic Training School, Tala:-
The Library was innaugurated on 06-Oct-2021 by Ld. Commissioner of Police, Shri Soumen Mitra, IPS at the premises of Traffic Training School(TTS), Tala. It has been set up with help of iLead Foundation, and aims to serve book lovers of all ages, including students preparing for competitive exams. At present, almost 5,000 books in different categories and languages are ready for ordinary citizens as well as police personnel.

Deployment of NCC Cadets /NGOs volunteers during Durga Puja:-
While the average citizen looks forward to festivals as a break from the daily routine, for Kolkata Traffic personnel festivals mean careful planning and increased vigilance. The officers and men of TTS every year undertake a mammoth task in deploying about 1500 - 1800 N.C.C cadets, N.G.O volunteers and Traffic Volunteers at all major intersections of the city on all the days of Durga Puja. These young highly motivated cadets & volunteers work, hand in hand, with all ranks of Kolkata Police, to control the massive crowd visiting different puja pandals and also in disciplining the vehicular traffic from morning to late night on the days of Durga Puja. In short, it can be rightly be said that, the Traffic Training School acts as a fulcrum for spreading the wings of knowledge and awareness on all aspects of traffic safety amongst the citizens of Kolkata.
