Traffic Safety Education :-
Since its inception in 1953, the Traffic Training School of Kolkata Traffic Police has been an - Institution Par Excellence, and has served the citizens of this 'GREAT CITY OF JOY', with great distinction in empowering good traffic sense and knowledge amongst all sections of our society with the help of extensive training programmes and pertinent traffic education. Over the years, this school has become a cradle for nurturing and spreading ideas, thoughts, campaigns and knowledge on road safety to educate the general public and drivers with the objective of reducing mishaps on the Roads of Kolkata.
Various studies conducted over the years by the WHO revealed that, in most of the developing countries of the world and especially in India, pedestrians are most vulnerable to road accidents, accounting to almost half, of the recorded fatalities every year. It has thus become imperative to inculcate good traffic sense and knowledge amongst the children and the youth of this great city who would soon become the torch bearers of tomorrow.
Hence, the Traffic Training School's Education Curriculum and schedule of activities is varied and wide ranging and designed specifically to cater to the needs of almost all sections of the society which includes school children, College Students, NGO's, Boys and Girls from the NCC, Bharat Scouts & Guides, offending drivers, officers & men of Defence Services and West Bengal Police Personnel. The school also imparts basic training as well as refresher course for the Home Guards, Civic Police & Traffic Police Personnel. There are special training courses for the Kolkata Police Drill Instructors, new Traffic Wardens as well as and other officers of Kolkata Traffic Police.
Besides education and training programmes the the syllabus of Madhyamik level conducted by the Kolkata Traffic Police also conducts some major West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. exercises during the year, through the 'Road Safety The officers and men of Traffic Training School are Week' as well as 'Road Safety Games' in which the regularly interacting and conducting workshops practical Traffic knowledge is imparted to school with the Head Masters, Principals and Teachers, of children, under privileged children of the weaker various city as well as district schools, within the sections of the society, NCC cadets, NGO's and State for streamlining the process of implementing members of the general public. The School also endeavors to spread the awareness of the larger concept of the phenomenon of global warming, to understand as well as tackle difficult situations like natural calamities, disasters and other recent disruptive activities of some misguided elements of our Society. The officers and men of Traffic Training School are regularly interacting and conducting workshops with the Head Masters, Principals and Teachers, of various city as well as district schools, within the State for streamlining the process of implementing Traffic education in the curriculum at the earliest.
Inauguration of the second Traffic Training School at Tala Park:-
On 29th. August 2009 Hon'ble Finance Minister, Shri Ashim Das Gupta officially inaugurated the second Kolkata Police Traffic Training Park and Administrative Building at Tala in a very colourfu and impressive function. The highlight of the ceremony was the professional and perfect display of different hand signal drills by School Children. The park has a modern traffic light signaling system (on a small scale) along with paved road and a mini stadium. The signaling system at Tala boasts of the latest infrared and helical based signals for greater pedestrian safety.
Deployment of N.C.C. Cadets and NGO's for Durga Puja:-
The offi cers & men of TTS every year undertake a mammoth exercise in deploying about 1200-1300 NCC cadets, Bharat Scouts & Guides along with other NGO's at all major intersections of the city on all the days of Durga Puja.These young, highly motivated School & College students (both girls & boys) work, hand in hand, with all ranks of Kolkata Police, to control the massive crowd visiting different Puja pandals and also in disciplining the unruly vehicular traffic. In short, it can rightly be said that, the Traffic Training School of Kolkata Traffic Police acts as a fulcrum for spreading the wings of knowledge and awareness on all aspects of traffic safety of the human lives amongst the citizens Kolkata.

JANUARY:-
• The officers & men of Traffic Training School under the able guidance & supervision of O.C TTS took active part in an exhibition which was held at “Shyam Park” from 16 to 25 January 2009. • Lecture at P.T.S on 12 January 2009 by O.C TTS on Environmental Pollution.
FEBRUARY:-
• O.C. TTS & his officers attended a special programme on Traffic Education under the auspices of Jiban Disha, a special organization, on 18 February 2009 at Chetla Girls High School.
MAY
• O.C. TTS attended a meeting on 20 May 2009 with the authority of Forest Dept. at Saltlake.
• Addl. O.C. TTS attended a meeting on 9 May 2009 & on 30 May 2009 with the authorities of Hyundai Company.
JUNE
• O.C TTS and Sgt. L. Halder & Sgt. S. Mukhopadhyay and others attended seminars at Derozio Hall, Saltlake on 23 June 2009 & 30 June 2009 which was organized by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Educating to discus on the topic for inclusion of Traffic Education in the Syllabus of Madhyamik Level.
• On 5 June 2009 a special walk programme was held by APSI for observing World Environmental Day. Nearly 300 people including some esteemed citizens took part init. The offices & men of Traffic Training School under the leadership of O.C TTS attended the programme.
• A seminar on Traffic Education was held at Traffic Training School, Tala on 6 June 2009 where near about 35 people including some children of Lafarge India Eastern region took part.
• Lecture before the P/S.Is on “Environmental Pollution” at P.T.S. by O/C T.T.S.
JULY
• Lecture at P.T.S. on 17 and 28 July 2009 by O.C. TTS on “Environmental Pollution”.
• To introduce traffic education in the syllabus of W. B. Board of Secondary Education as a compulsory subject from class V to X from 2010, a condensed report cum representation was submitted to the President of Education Board. Following the representation a special workshop was organized at Derozio Hall on 7 July 2009 & where teachers of Kolkata & other districts were trained by the team of Traffic Training School.
• Those teachers were finally trained at Traffic Training School, Tala, and organizing two-day workshop on 27 and 28 July 2009 programme & behavior of TP
• On 29 December 2009 cadets of Saraswati Guide Academy were imparted training at Traffic Training School, Tala.
• 20th Batch of Traffic Training Course of ASIs & Constable of WBP was held at Alipore Police Line.
AUGUST:-
• Lecture at P.T.S on 4 August 2009 by O.C. TTS on Environmental Pollution.
• O.C. TTS & his team along with the teachers, declared by W. B. Board of Secondary Education as “MRP” went to Siliguri for organizing a work-shop in bigger form from 26 to 30 August 2009 for imparting traffic training to the teachers of Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Birbhum, Berhampore, Malda, Raigange, & Balurghat.
SEPTEMBER:-
• Nearly 200 officers of Air Force & other members were trained on Road Safety matters through a one-day workshop on 3 September 2009 at Air Force Camp, Barrackpore by a team of Traffic Training School on the request of the Air Force authorities.
• O.C. TTS & his team along with the “MRP” teachers attended an work shop at Bankura from 6 to 10 September 2009 for imparting traffic training to the teachers of Hoogly, Mednapore (Both), Burdwan, Purulia, Bankura and other districts.
OCTOBER:-
• A team comprising of one Sgt & one constable of Traffic Training School went to P.T.C. Barrackpore for taking classes regarding Traffic Management for S.Is on 16 and 26 October 2009.
NOVEMBER:-
• A six-day training on Traffic Education for the Central Calcutta Polytechnic College was organized by Traffic Training School, Tala from 10 to 16 November 2009. A total of 25 students attended the training.
•A safety awareness stall was erected
DECEMBER:-
• On 17 December 2009 a training programme was held at Traffic Training School, Tala at Park Circus Traffic Training School. A total of 35 WBP personnel attended the class.
• On 18 December 2009 Sgt. S. Mukherjee & on 19 December 2009 Sgt. L. Halder delivered a lecture on the
present utility of Road Safety Week, Traffic Awareness at Calcutta Girls High School Campus on 14 November 2009.
Safety Awareness Programme for School Children:-
MARCH:-
• Officers of Traffic Training School were engaged in Madhyamik Examination as examiners through out the month. • Some junior students were imparted training on Road safety matters at Traffic Training School, Tala, under the banner of Sacred Heart, an NGO.JUNE:-
• A token felicitation Programme was held on 17 June at St. Thomas Girls High School.
SEPTEMBER:-
• A special Programme on safety matter was held at Barisha Vivekananda High School & Shyambazar A. V.School.
OCTOBER:-
• For spreading the ideas & thoughts of Road Safety in the tender winds of the students, classes were organized by Traffic Training School on following dates at different school under Nabadisha, a social organization.

NOVEMBER:-
• A class for Nabadisha students was organized at Gardenrich P.S. in Traffic Safety Awareness subject on 12 November 2009. NB:- The officers & men of Traffic Training School were engaged in taking classes on the subject of Traffic Education at 10 different schools of the city.
Road Safety Week:-
The first Road Safety Week was observed between 5 and 11 January, 2009. More than 900 students/volunteers/cadets of 30 different schools/NCC/NGOs performed duty at 30 important crossing of the city. The closing ceremony & felicitation Programme of the “Road Safety Week-2009” was held on 17 January 2009 at Mahajati Sadan Auditorium in which Ld. CP graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Second Road Safety Week was observed from 17 to 23 August 2009. In all 660 NCC cadets/NGOs/ volunteers & school students took part & performed duty at 24 different crossings of the city. The closing ceremony & felicitation Programme of the Second Road Safety Week-2009 was held on 19 December 2009 at Traffic Training School, Tala.
Special Programme:-
The construction of the Traffic Training Children Park & the administrative building at Tala within its compound was almost complete when we shifted our establishment with full set-up from PTS, Kolkata on 24 February 2009. But, it was officially inaugurated on 29 August 2009 by West Bengal Finance Minister Ashim Dasgupta in presence of the Commissioner of Police and other dignitaries. A colorful display of Signal Drill in the beautiful ambience & natural surroundings was held.

FEBRUARY:-
• 127 R.Cs were trained on Traffic matter & Road Safety from 17 to 19 February 2009 in batches.
MARCH:-
• 36 D.Is were trained on traffic matter & Road Safety.
MAY:-
• 69 R.Cs were trained on Road Safety Rules & Regulation of ttwo batches one from 4 to 6 May 2009 and seven others from 7 to 9 May 2009.
JUNE:-
• Refresher Course training for the newly posted TP
Constables was held in two batches, one from 15 to 22 June 2009 and another from 27 June to 4 July 2009. Altogether 94 TP constables were trained on traffic related issues at Traffic Training School.
JULY:-
• Refresher course training for the newly posted TP Constable continued till 4 July 2009.
OCTOBER:-
• A seven-day Refresher Course for TP constables of different Traffic Guards was held at Traffic Training School from 22 to 30 October 2009. In all 66 TP constables were trained on physical & mental subjects.
NOVEMBER:-
• A Refresher Course training for TP Sgts & ASIs of different Traffic Guards was held at Traffic Training School from 16 to 21 November 2009 where 11 Sgts & 25 ASIs were imparted training in this batch on physical & mental subjects.
Other Training Programme:-
JANUARY:-
• O.C. TTS supervised & guided Traffic Police Foot Contingent i/c/w training & rehearsal for R.D. Parade.
FEBRUARY:-
• A seven-day training of Axiom Hyundai Civic Police was held at P.T.S from 18 to 24 February 2009. In all 80 trainees were imparted training about Road Safety, Rules & Regulations of Traffic.
MARCH:-
• Training of 1489 newly appointed Home Guards started for one month from 24 March 2009.
APRIL:-
• In all 1489 newly appointed Home Guards were imparted training in a month long training course both on outdoor & indoor subject at Traffic Training School, & Park Circus Childres Traffic Training Park.
MAY:-
• In all 45 newly recruited Traffic Wardens were imparted training for 30 days starting from 18 May 2009 on the subjects of PT Parade, Signal drill & other traffic related matter.
JUNE:-
• The Civic Police were trained in three batches one from 15 to 21 June 2009 and from 23 to 29 June 2009 & the rest from 30 June to 6 July 2009. In all 99 trainees in three batches were imparted training on PT Parade, Signal Drill, Road Signs, Signals etc.
• A 14-day training Programme of Home Guard was held at Traffic Training School, from 26 June to 6 July 2009. In all 115 Home Guards were trained in physical & mental subjects.
• A training of woodcutter was held at Par Circus Children Traffic Training Park by the staff of Disaster Management Group of PAF & SAF. O/C.T.T.S, Addl. O/C TTS & Officers of Traffic Training School were present at this Programme.
JULY:-
• A seven-day training programme of Axiom Hyundai Civic Police was held at Traffic Training School from 1 to 7 July 2009. In all, 49 trainees were imparted training in Traffic related matters.
• In all, 104 Green Police were imparted training on different aspects of traffic.
• A total of 189 Home Guards were imparted training in both indoor & outdoor subjects.
• A special programme on safety was held at Traffic Training School, Tala on 4 July 2009 where six men of W.B. Police
AUGUST:-
• In all 45 Green Police were trained on Road Safety & traffic matters including the conduct & behavior towards the public.
• In all 71 Home Guards were imparted training on both indoor & outdoor subjects.
OCTOBER:-
• A two-week training of Home Guards of different Traffic
• Guards were held at Traffic Training School, Tala, where 70 Home Guards were imparted training on physical & mental classes & the practice firing of Home Guards was held at Barrackpore PTC on 18 October 2009.
DECEMBER:-
• A Refresher Course training of TP Home Guards was held from 9 to 22 December 2009.
• In all 55 Home Guards were imparted training on both field & mental subjects.

Pre Puja Traffic Assistance Camp:-
A week long Pre-Puja Traffic Assistance Camp was organized at different crossings of the city to regulate pedestrians for smooth f low of Traffic.
Deployment of NCC Cadets during Durga Puja:
A total of 1195 NCC cadets/NGO volunteers/school students were deployed to perform duty at different crossing during Durga Puja festival for assisting pedestrians and to help Kolkata Traffic Police.

• On 26 January 2010 a car-call-up duty was organized by Traffic Training School at Raj Bhawan.
• On 15 August 2009 officers & men of Traffic Training School under the supervision of O.C. TTS organized a car- call-up system at Raj Bhawan with success.
• On 13 and 14 December 2009 a car-call-up duty was organized by Traffic Training School very successfully.
